Yah's Promises to Abraham
In this blog I want to share some interesting thoughts on the seven promises to Abraham. Yahweh God made promises to Abraham that had to be fulfilled as our Lord and God cannot lie and must do as He has faithfully vowed.
Following is a quotation from "The Fall and Redemption of Adam's Race" by Lawrence Blanchard.
"1. Abraham would become a great and mighty nation.
And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and so you shall be a blessing. – Genesis 12:2
... Abraham will surely become a great and mighty nation, and in him all the nations of the earth will be blessed. – Genesis 18:18
2. Abraham would become a blessing to all the families and nations of the earth.
And I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed. – Genesis 12:3
... Abraham will surely become a great and mighty nation, and in him all the nations of the earth will be blessed. – Genesis 18:18
3. Abraham's descendants would become a vast multitude of people.
And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if anyone can number the dust of the earth, then your descendants can also be numbered. – Genesis 13:16
Indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens, and as the sand which is on the seashore ... – Genesis 22:17
4. Abraham's descendants would become a multitude of nations.
As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be the father of a multitude of nations. No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I will make you the father of a multitude of nations. And I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come forth from you. – Genesis 17:4-6
5. Abraham's descendants would produce kings.
And kings shall come forth from you.– Genesis 17:6
6. Abraham's descendants would possess the gate of their enemies.
And your seed shall possess the gate of their enemies. – Genesis 22:17
7. Abraham's descendants would possess Canaan, the land area known today as old Palestine.2
Now YHWH said to Abram, "Go forth from your country, and from your relatives and from your father's house, to the land which I will show you." – Genesis 12:1
And YHWH appeared to Abram and said, "To your descendants I will give this land."– Genesis 12:7
For all the land which you see, I will give it to you and to your descendants forever. – Genesis 13:15
See also Genesis 15:18; 17:8; 24:7.
The first six promises listed above feature the six characteristics by which the descendants of Abraham would be known. They would become a great nation and all the blessed families of the earth (see Chapter Five, Premise #15). His descendants would become a vast multitude of people, they would become many nations, produce kings, and be victorious over their enemies." – quoted from pgs. 53-54
If the New Testament is correct in identifying the "race" of Abraham's descendants as being the Church, then it is quite obvious today who Abraham's descendants are. And also, who they are not! By the way, the 7th promise was fulfilled (see Joshua 21:43-45).
I believe that this is one of the most exciting, simplistic studies to do in the Holy Scriptures as it concerns the relationship of Abraham's descendants and New Covenant beleivers today. One does not need a deep or lengthy treatise to get a very clear picture of who this people group is that has fulfilled this great calling in our father, Abraham, through the Abrahamic-Saraic Covenant that Yeshua the Christ fulfilled with the shedding of His precious atoning blood!
